Using just gasket sealer is standard procedure. They come from the factory that way. That sealer works better than cork gaskets which can be cut and / or seep. The only thing you have to watch is Chrysler has black and gray sealers. The black stays more rubbery but it will not bond and seal if there is any hint of oil on the sealing surfaces. The gray stuff gets a little harder and is more difficult to clean off, but it will seal if you overlook some oil residue. You can even use those sealers with a cork or fiber gasket. I put a little on both sides to insure any small sanding scratches are filled and it makes peeling the gasket off next time easier.
Happy to hear it's solved.
