2002 Volkswagen Golf turn signals and hazards

Hi I have a problem with my Golf mk1 for a while now. Its a good strong car but for some reason the turn signal light on the dash just stays on constantly when I try to use my turn signals and does not flash but what worries me is that the signals do not light up at all. Please help. BTW its a 2002 mk1 1.4 fuel injection (square dash)

Do both interior signal indicator lights stay on all the time? If so, it sounds like a ground problem that is back feeding power through the lights to find ground. Also, have you checked the flasher unit?

The signal light does not stay on all the time, it comes on when I flip the switch to use my turn signals but it does not flash. And the exterior lights don't come on at all. Also the hazards do exactly the same thing

I would think it has something to do with the flasher itself. Have you tried replacing it?
