I have a 2002 Sunfire with a 2.2L engine (not ecotech) and I have an issue with a small transmission fluid leak, which I am topping it up regularly until I can get that resolved, however, I am not noticing when driving that the engine is revving up a bit.

Transmission Fluid leak, which will be getting repaired once I have the money to do so, but since 2 days ago, am noticing that the car revs higher than normal when driving. For example, normally at 60 km/h, the car will rev at 1500 to 2000 RPM. Now its at 3000 RPM, which almost seems like its not shifting into a higher gear anymore.

Thanks, this is the good site, thanks for making it

Sorry for sounding a bit stupid, but not sure on what CEL is, would that be a sensor of some sort? Thanks for your reply by the way.

Ah yeah see, I knew I was missing something obvious, and actually yes, have had check engine light on for awhile (like 2 years), but was one of those things, it was on. Car was working fine, no weird noises or the like, so just kept driving like that.

Excellent, than you very much, will see if I can get that done, know of any in canada from memory? I have my mechanic I go to, but am pretty sure he doesn't have what is needed to read those codes since he works out of a garage in his backyard. Thanks again.

Code readers have become fairly inexpensive so he may have 1? Any half serious mechanic should? I'm not familiar with canadian auto stores though. You could call around and check.

Well I shall definitely try that, he's only up the road from me a little bit, so will see if he does, just to ease my mind, will I do any damage to the vehicle driving it in that condition? Moreso than that is already done anyway? Thanks much.

Cannot give definite answer on damage other than it sounds like possible electrical control issue rather than mechanical. Best I can do over internet.
