I have a ls with a 3.9 liter v8. It has started leaking from somewhere above the oil filter. Could this be the timing cover gasket or are there any high pressure hoses in that area it leaks pretty bad. Also had problem with over heating. It only got really hot once but turned it off when the warning light came on and replaced the thermostat. Haven't drove it since because of the leak. The oil isn't creamy looking like if it had water in it.

As far as the oil leak, check to see if it is the oil sending unit. I have seen them leak really bad. What is your question regarding the overheating?

Thanks I will have the sending unit checked. With the overheating what should I look for if the thermostat does not fix the problem? I did not see any water leaking from the unit by the drivers side windshield or hoses from there but did see water on the ground on that side

Have you been able to test drive it since you replaced the thermostat?

No. We did let it run until it heated up to the midway point on the temp gauge but didnt drive it anywhere.

Lets wait until the oil leak is fixed and then see if there is still a problem. You may have already fixed the overheating problem.

Well we finally got the oil leak fixed: it was the oil filter housing bracket, the gasket behind it was shot. And we also found a water leak in the overflow tank. Thanks for you help.
