While driving home on Wed my CEL came on. On Thursday morning I took it to the dealership who read the code which showed Camshaft sensor. They asked me how the engine had been running. I told them no issues, runs greats, starts fine and been running the same since I bought in in 2010. I went ahead and set up an appointement for in a week to have the sensor replaced. The CEL stayed on through the rest of Thursday. I got up to head to work today (Friday) and no CEL. The car still runs great. So do CEL go off after a while? If the sensor is bad at somepoint shouldn’t the CEL come back on? If between now and my appointment in a week or so it doesn’t and there is no sign of engine issue should I hold off on replaceing the sensor until I see some issues with the engine or the CEL comes back on?

The CEL would come on when a problem has been detected but if the problem is intermittent, the CEL would go off when the problem is not detected again. I would not jump to conclusion and have the sensor replaced. Check the sensor connections first, it is possible the connections are loose or contaminated due to presence of water.
