My 2002 Ford Mustang was making a ticking noise, so I took it to Pep Boys for a diagnostics test. Also, my car smelled like gas. They told me that the noise was because of the clutch and that I needed a new one (and a fuel pump). So I took the car in a couple weeks later to get I fixed. I paid $1,500. The only reason I fixed it is because I'm trying to sell it. The next day a buyer came to look at it. We took it for a test drive, and I noticed that the sound was still there (even louder). I took it back to Pep Boys and they're telling me I need to pay $2000 to fix it. Shouldn't they have told me this problem when I had gotten the diagnostics test? Since they told me the noise was because of the clutch, is there anything I can do?

I don't see how either one of those would have caused a ticking noise. What is the $2000.00 dollars supose to fix? I personally would go up the chain the General Manager or Shop Manager. If that doesn't help you out, call corporate and explain the situation to them. People make mistakes though, but this seems out of the norm.

I'm not quite sure. The mechanic showed me something under the car, and said it was part of the clutch. Then he wet on to say it wasn't under warranty so I would have to pay for it. I started to complain, and he said to bring it back and he would "try to fix it, so I won't have to pay anything." It all just seems really suspicious to me. Honestly, I know nothin about cars, and I'm a teenage girl, so I'm basically a "target" for mechanics to scam?

I understand. Well take it back to them and see if they fix it with the understanding that you are not having to pay for it. If it is fixed, then all is well and you can sell the car. If not, let me know and we can figure something out on how to get it fixed.
