Yes you can double check all your fuses and relays. But I doubt this is the problem. Also, if your check engine light came on, your mechanic should've been able to see the codes in the computer. If it said the O2 sensor and (there's no tbp) maybe the tps sensor were bad, then the mechanic should first check the wiring/connectors before replacing the sensors. Because sometimes the problem is there and not the sensors themselves.
Also, if the mechanic did work but didn't fix the problem, he needs to find out definitively what the problem is and not just tell you to buy a new car.
You can check the computer for any new codes, the ignition system, then the fuel system and finally the related sensors.
