GOT'CHA! You can not remove your old radio if it is a late 2002 or newer model. They have a very high failure rate and GM makes a lot of money on their grossly over-priced repairs. To prevent you from replacing it with a higher-quality aftermarket replacement, they built the Body Computer into it so it must remain in the car. Without it, you won't have power windows, cruise control, and the other computers on the car may not operate because they get a "wake-up" signal when the Body Computer broadcasts the vehicle ID number to them when you turn on the ignition switch.

There is a "radio relocation" kit available to overcome this childish nonsense General Motors heaps on their customers. That kit lets you mount the original radio in the trunk, and cut just the speaker wires to run to your new radio. I don't know how well those kits work. My concern would be for all that extra length of wires picking up stray signals from the other computers and causing interference.
