Our 2001 Volvo will turn over but won't start. The fuel pump has been replaced as part of a national recall but we still have the same problem. After five tries the anti theft device kicks in and the car shuts down. The garage smells like fuel.

The recall was for done because the fuel pumps would start to leak. As for the no start, does a message for an immobolizer issue come up? You should have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes, especially the central electronic module. Only problem with that is only Volvo or someone that has a scanner like a Snapon Modis or Genesis with the European software can do a full system scan of ALL CONTROL MODULES.
