Hi I have a 2001 Oldmobile Aurora and the overflow tank is boiling over but the engine is not overheating. I changed the thermostat, drained the coolant and refilled and changed out the overflow bottle as well. Now it is just coming out the overflow tube everytime I drive it which still means it is boiling inside the tank but I dont know why. Do you have any ideas for me? What would cause this? FYI the overflow tank is the only cap there isnt a radiator cap just in case that helps with anything.

It is running hot otherwise the coolant will not boil. You need a leak down test to verify that there is not a head gasket issue. it sounds like either a head gasket or clogged radiator.

This guide will help confirm the problem.

Please run down this guide and report back.

Ok I will have to take it in and get it tested then, I doesnt seem to be running hot at all. As far as the tempeture gauge inside the car it never goes over half way and always seems to run where its supposed too.

I have replaced the radiator, top hose and thermostat; had radiator power flushed and car continues to run hot when driven for more than 30 minutes. My car is a 2001 OLDS AURORA.

When you shut the car off after being hot, disconnect the fans by the radiator and just feel the radiator in different spots. If you feel cold spots then the radiator is bad as it should be the same temp all over. If not that have it checked for head gasket or intake manifold gaskets that are leaking.

The altenator went out replacing it I stripped the hole on the radiator to the transmission after replacing the radiator the car over heats. We took out the thermostat and ran the car without it; it still over heats. What should I do? I noticed the coolant coming out of the resivour once it heated up.

I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora. I got the radiator hose replaced (was leaking) the thermostat replaced, and the radiator flushed and it overheats. The funny thing is that when I stop, turn the engine off then start it back up it cools down while it idles. I don't Knoknow what could be the problem please help

A chemical head check is a quick and simple test for a head problem, with coolant being expelled I am thinking that there is a build up of pressure in the system due to a combustion leak, a faulty water pump will not normally give you your symptoms, check the head gasket first. A faulty water pump expecially with no thermostat will not cause overheating as the natural thermal flow of water with no thermostat will over come any pump preformance problems.

No not at all, if head gasket is faulty, head gasket set and proberbly minimal head machining to rectify any warp, bend or cracks, all standard procedures.

The most common cause of in town overheating is a bad cooling fan. Does it turn on when the engine starts getting hot?
