A few months ago my 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe wouldnt go out of park. I did some stuff on my own took off the sides where the shift **** is, and I found that the button you press to get the shifter out of park wasnt catching on the little plastic piece its supposed to. So all I have had to do was pull a little cord and push the button in and the car goes out of park easily. It goes from R to N to D and back but once its in Park I have to pull the cord again, I am just trying to find out what that cord is and how to go about replacing it! Thanks

The cord is a safety device to keep you fro moving the car unless the brake pedal is depressed.
If you look at the brake pedal assembly you will find the anchoring point or the other end of the broken cord.
It will be a part that you will have to go to a dealer ship to get.

Let me know if you need anything as I will monitor this post for a while.
