Engine Cooling problem
2001 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 164000 miles

I drive a 2001 ford taurus SES sedan with 164k miles. After driving about 10-15 miles and I come to a complete stop (Idling) or Parked my car begins to smoke from steam coming from the cap of the coolant box, the cap is on there correctly and the hose was just replaced

Radiator fan is probably not coming on when a/c is switched on like it should, most likely culprit is defective a/c pressure switch

car is overheating, have changed thermostat had system flushed, replaced coolant resevoir(old one had several cracks ). Coolant has a dark discoloration. It drives for approx. 5 miles before overheating. Doesnt appear to be any coolant in the oil or transmission fluid. Cannot find any leaks on the exterior.

I have a ford taurus and a few weeks ago I noticed that the car was running hot. I checked the coolant and is was low so I filled it back up again. I then realized that the fans were not working so I took it to a mechanic and had that problem fixed. The issue now is that when the car is on it is spewing coolant out a valve by the resovior. What could be causing this? Is this the sign of a bad water pump? I changed the thermostat not long back. Could the block be cracked?

What you need to do is have it block and pressure tested. If its not being caused by a bad water, thermostat, clogged radiator or airlock in the system.

My Taurus is overheating and I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm seeing the steam coming from the back hose on the overflow tank. Not seeing much action in the overflow tank other than that.

First check coolant level. If OK then ensure cooling fan(s) are coming on properly. Also remove and test thermostat. Let me know how these first few things look.

Since it was coolant, you could pressurize the system to see if you can see the leak. The tester is nothing more than a hand pump. Most parts stores will lend or rent them to you.

Could be a problem with the thermostat, clogged-up radiator and the water pump-start at the thermostat, replace it and see what happens-
