Raspy noise from up front when rpm's are 1,500 to 2,500 when vehicle shifts gears starting out from a stop. It almost sounds like a speedometer cable that needs graphite but a lot louder, 4X4 switch does not work when buttons pressed to 4H or 4L, at times it feels like it is trying to shift from 2wd to 4whd with a clunk at higher speeds. Just did this twice on the highway at 65 mph. Help!

This might be two separate questions. Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can hear the noise? That would be great. You can upload it here with your response.

Cheers, Ken

Yes here it is. Also, I just found out as you will see in the video the noise happens while in park too. ABS and brake Light came on. I know I need to change the brakes on the rear end. Just did the front end.

Hello,

Thanks for the video it helps. It sounds like the transfer case encoder is weak and not fulling engaging the gears sometimes which is common. Here are instructions and the location of the encoder so you can change it out.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken
