I just bought a 2001 as listed above, and I had heard a lot of problems with the emergency brake needing to be replaced often. Should I be worried about this, or is there a resolve to the problem?

Never heard of this as an issue. They wear out just as regular brakes. Just keep an eye on them

Not sure what you're referring to or what you've heard. The parking brake is a system, not a single part. Ford has always had a lot of trouble with their parking brake cables rusting up. They often have to be replaced every year or two. Chrysler and GM don't have that problem. The parking brake on a 2001 is no longer the miserable design built into the brake caliper with rear disc brakes that GM and Ford used for many years. GM is using the same design now that Chrysler has always had and it's very trouble-free. If yours has drum rear brakes the parking brake is built into that system just like it has been for decades. That system works very well.
