We took the thermostat out and idled car without it and it ran fine and didnt over heat. We bought new thermostat and put it in and it is doing same thing. Its a 2.2 L. Any suggestions?

Good morning,

This sounds like you have a failed head gasket from the overheating.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/head-gasket-blown-test

You need to have a leak-down test done on each cylinder to confirm a failed gasket. That is where they inject air into each cylinder and check for coolant movement in the radiator. That will confirm a head gasket failure.

I attached the procedure for you of replacing the head gasket.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
