for a while now EVERY time I turn on my car, you can hear a loud fan turn on, even if my car isnt hot at all. It went on for a while and one day it just went away, it however came back. Its quite annoying. What is it exactly? I did some research but couldn't find a concrete answer so far, jus that maybe it might have to do with a relay?
Also I would like to point out that as soon as the fan started to turn on automatically, my gauge that detects the coolant level of my car wont move anymore.

Thank you!

Most likely the coolant temp sensor is bad. Check that first. It will cause the gauge not to work and if the computer is getting a false reading from it, it may think the engine is hot and turn the fan on. Check to make sure the wiring is not damaged and the connection is clean and tight.

It's below the throttle body and above the water pump pulley. See pic attached.

As far as a price, my flat rate book calls for 1.1 hour labor. So whatever your mechanic charges per hour times that. I looked up the part at a nationally recognized parts store and it was under 15.00 dollars.

actually I do! Sister's car has been acting quite weird. The other day, when she parked, she noticed her park shift didn't work anymore. Now even if she is in park mode, her car goes to reverse mode. My best guess is that it's a transmission problem? Would she have to get that replaced or would she be able to just get it fixed up? It is a 2001 jetta. Thanks!

Do all the gears work? For example, if it is in drive, does the transmission shift through all the gears? If so, the first thing I would check would be the transmission linkage to make sure it is in good condition and not out of adjustment.

It would need inspected to see if something has slipped or is worn and needs replaced. As far as the Park position, there is a part in the transmission called the parking paw. It is nothing more than a steel bar that engages into the output shaft of the transmission which doesn't allow it to turn.
