car started making loud noises clutch is spongy

My car cut out while driving home a short distance.l begun to move off after stopping at traffic light and the car started making loud noises clutch was spongy and just didn't start after retrying.

Clutch and gear box seem as normal now while engine turned off. Timing belt is intact and moves freely.
Can you give me any idea what may be wrong.

Let start with a fuel pump check

Then a ignition system check

to see what system is not working, lets go from there. Once the engine is running we can look at the other issues.
