Help!
I replaced the camshaft seal on my 2000 Lexus es300 and replace everything the same way I found it. The car starts but sound loud. Sounds like a knocking in the head. No bolts are loose, everything seems fine, double check the timing after and that was also good. What happened? Was the camshaft suppose to be in a certain position? Caps removed and tighten in a certain sequence? Did I bend the cams?

Did you tighten the cam gear up correctly? Is the valve timing correct and the tensioner ok?

All the caps were tighten up evenly to approximately 13 ft lbs. However, no specific sequence was followed for removal or installation. This is a vvt engine not sure if they require one. Timing is correct and the tensioner is good.

As long as the caps are pulled down evenly there should not be a problem, I will look into the system and post back a bit later.

Also does the cams need to be in a certain position in order to remove and does the sprocket need to be in timing?

When ever the cam belt is removed, the engine should be set at TDC top bead centre, this will align up all the timing marks, was this not done?

No. I used a wire-tie to lock the belt in place with the sprocket. I doubled the the timing again and it is correct.
