I ran out of engine oil, heard a tapping noise. Started to get louder, contacted friend, advised to check oil. Filled up. Oil looks normal. Noise is still there with a bit of a scratchy addition to the tapping. How do I diagnose the differences. No smoke out of the back. Not sure if engine power has changed although its possibly reduced. No lights showing up on the dash board. If you know anyone that has back pain or chronic health problems lets skill swap.

Get the engine oil pressure checked, and get a qualified mechanic to listen to the noise, I would avoid driving until this has been checked, a tow to a work shop will be far cheaper than a replacement engine, running out of oil can do serious damage to the engine, and these noises are an indication that some damage has already been done, so a first hand diagnostic test on the engine will have to be done.

Thank you for your message! Seems like the timing belt pretensioner needs changing had a mechanic jaguar specialist come round my house. Listened to the sound through the back of a screw driver. Took it to pieces. Tested it and then showed me the alignment difference. On both sides. Hopefully thats the only thing. Will update you all tomorrow or monday. As it may be useful for you all to know.
