2000 ford escort zx2: driving one day car running perfect and all of a sudden it starts to sputter very bad and dies. It will start up and run as long as I keep my foot on the accelerator, but it is still sputtering and will dies as soon as I let off. And my MPG's went from 25mpg to like 10mpg. I have tried replacing the fuel pump and strainer and the fuel filter and still no change. Please help this is my only vehicle! Ossibly the (MAF) Mass Air Flow sensor?

Ok here is an update on what I have tried. I purchased a code reader and it shown the following codes:
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire
p0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor A - Bank 1 Ciruit Malfunction
P1131 - Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1

This means nothing to me because I have no clue what it means.
I have replaced the spark plugs & wires and can see that all plugs are firing fine. What would cause these codes and how can I check. I will be conducting a wet/dry compression test tonight to try and hopefully rule out a faulty Valve or rings.
Any info would be helpful, thank you.
