Is this only happening is slow or stopped traffic or does it happen at highways speeds also? Just how hot is the engine getting?

It's happened in slow stopped and normal traffic. So hot it goes to the red on the inside gauge

The cooling fans are programmed to come on at what would seem to be a very high temp to you but it was done intentionally. The fans should kick right before the red if they are working properly and then the temp will come down a ways. Make sure the fans are working.
