Air Conditioning blowing hot & cold at same time! Both sets of our parents are having the same problem with thier cars, a Cadillac Deville and a Buick La Sabre. 2000 and 1998 respectivly.
We live in the desert where it gets really hot so undrivable in the summer. Driver side blowing hot and passenger side blowing cold on the Cadillac and the reverse on the Buick. They are all in thier 80's so any help or reccomendations is appreciated!

It is quite possibly a problem with HVAC actuators, or doors. Usually it is a fault with an actuator. What happens, is that when one is read as being overtraveled, it defaults to a position, usually max hot or max cold. Often times there are codes set, but they are in the HVAC module, and a generic code reader will not access them.

More than likely you have a faulty actuator in the HVAC system, since it is dual zone, you could have that type of symptom. Ideally, you would need to scan the heating system for possible codes, and to read data. When an actuator fails, it is usually interpreted as an overtravel, and the system then defaults to one extreme or the other. The default action is often system specific.
