I have recently had 2 CV axles and a lower control arm assembly replaced on my 2000 Buick Lesabre. But tonight after driving about 30 miles on the expressway, I smelled rubber burning and suddenly I could hardly turn the steering wheel. The Check Charge System light came on, then the volt light. I made it the last 2 miles home - but when I turned the engine off I could hear a "clunk clunk" sound under the hood. What could be wrong? Could the other repairs have caused it? How to fix? What is the cost? Etc.

Check yoru fan belt. Your tensioner may have gone bad and your belt may have burnt up. If it's a belt there are belt diagrams on site here under diy section. If thetensioner is bad it's about $75 and a belt runs $40-60. Some of these are not to hard to put on so you may be able to put it on yourself.
