This S70 has always had squirrely electronics. The lights on the gear shift have never worked (I got it in '03), there is a door speaker that's intermittent. Now, when I take the key out of the ignition, with the door open, the car beeps like the key is IN the ignition. The key fobs won't work to lock/unlock the car (the key still does, though). Thoughts?

The gear selector has a small bulb that can be replaced. For the speaker issue you would need to remove the door panel and inspect connector and look inside where the window regulator is at and make sure there are no wires chaffing around there? For the beep sound, check the tumbler doors. When the key is out the flaps need to be closed. Use a small pocket screw driver to gently push in so you can see what I mean if you need a better picture of what I mean? If one of the flaps is stuck, the switch interprets that as a key still being inside? You could spray some graphite spray to the tumbler to see if that helps. If the flaps are ok then the ignition switch is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the flaps are bad then the steering column lock will need to be replaced. As for the remote issue, see if fixing the beep sound takes care of this issue? What you can do also is go to a Pep Boys or AutoZone, they can test your remote to see if it just needs a new battery or the remote is faulty? Good luck to you and let me know what happens?
