"what can be the cause of my 1999 Mitsubishi montero sport not been able to move when placed in drive "D", but it moves when placed in "L"?".
I have tried replacing the gear and the gear cable, yet it still gives same problem. Is it possible that the gear brain box is responsible for this problem?
When I start the vehicle, I will have to move with "L" and then when the speed increases, I have to change to "D2". The vehicle does not move when placed in drive "D".

It sounds like you have an issue with the transmission itself.
Try disconnecting both battery terminal clamps and touching the positive terminal clamp with the negative terminal clamp for a full minute. Reconnect the battery terminals clamps back onto the battery and attempt to drive the vehicle in D. If it still does not work in D then the issue is the transmission.
Is there any check engine light on or service engine soon? If so, what are the codes.
