I'm convinced that my mass air flow sensor is bad but I wanna be sure before I replace it. I've been getting a lot of symptoms that lead to this. Includes; hesitation when sudden acceleration, stalling when reversing on hills sometimes, cold hard start etc. Today I removed the sensor while car was idling and idling speed drop, sound like it wanted to cut off but it remained running. Is that a sign that its bad?

No, thatis normal, the reversing and stalling on a hill have nothing to do with the m.A.F. Sensor. The only was to diagnose the sensor is to view the grams or volts that is produces under certain rpm's and loads. So you need some one with a scanner who knows what they are looking at. The best bet is to have it diagnose by a shop and then you could replace the part yourself.

OK. So the reversing problem can be transmission related?

Yea, I could be. Or it could be a wiring issue that gets pulled or twisted when the motor goes it the opposite direction when it reverse.
