During cold weather a little smoke during startup is expected as condensation inside the exhaust system is being pushed out. As long as you do not have coolant losses and overheating issues, there is nothing to worry about.
As to gas smell, cold starts requires a richer mixture so not a problem. Oil burning smell could be due to oil being burnt in cylinders or getting to the exhaust via valve seals and for the age of vehicle, it is somethin you can't avoid.
