Does a 1999 ford Mercury Sable have a timing belt ? or a serpertine belt ?

There's two engines available for your car but in this case they both use a timing chain.

A serpentine belt is the thin multi-ribbed belt that runs things on the outside of the engine like the generator and power steering pump. Unlike the older V-belts, serpentine belts can run low-power items like water pumps on their smooth back side.
