I was wondering how important it is that an automatic trans is not overfilled. I always struggle not to overfill it? I have had my trans serviced at trans shops and the fluid will be slightly overfilled? What is the reason for all the fuss on overfilling?

Overfilling can cause the trans to leak. Also, when they fill it, tell them to make sure the vehicle is warmed up, driven, and then check the level. ATF expands when it gets hot. So if it shows full when cold or cool, it will be overfull when it warms up. If you are having it done at a shop, they should know that and know the engine needs to be running when it is checked.
