1999 Ford Explorer FLASHING LIGHT

MY 4 WHEEL HIGH & 4 WHEEL LOW LIGHTS IN THE DASH STARTED FLASHING TODAY. THEY FLASH 5 TIMES, THEN WAIT SEVERAL MINUTES AND WILL FLASH AGAIN. SOMETIMES THEY FLASH 3 TIMES AND 6 TIMES. THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SHIFTING FINE, AND THE FLUID LEVEL IS GOOD AND LOOKS RED LIKE IT SHOULD. IT HAS BEEN PROBABLY 3 YEARS SINCE TRANSMISSION FLUSH BUT NOT THAT MANY MILES. WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS TRYING TO TELL ME? THANKS

Usually when both lights are flashing it's the shift motor on the transfer case, but it can be the switch. It can be scanned to read the GEM and this will tell you before you replace parts.
