The brake lights do not work?

I have a 1999 escort zx2 and the brake lights do not work, I have replaced the brake light switch the fuse and the bulbs and still no brake lights. The turn signals work the tail lights work and the hazard lights work.

It sounds to me like you have a faulty multi function switch. To be sure would require some very specific pin tests and you would need the wiring diagram also. But I would put my money on the multi function switch.

I too have seen the electronic flasher (behind left side of dash) go out and cause this issue, here is a guide to help us fix it and I have the wiring diagrams for the brake lights in the images below so you can see how the system works.
