I am changing the fuel pump on my 1999 Suburban k1500. the new fuel pump has a different wiring clip on the top. The old one was set up in a cube with a grey and a purple wire on top and 2 black wires on the bottom. The new clip is set up flat with a black on each end and a grey and a purple in the middle. I assume grey goes to grey and purple to purple. Does it matter which black goes to which black?

It shouldn't matter. The gray is the fuel pump power. The purple is the fuel gauge and the 2 blacks should be both grounds.
