How hot does the engine get, in degrees f? Under the hood, any obvious over-heater issues? Are you losing coolant? If you have recovery reservoir, is it filling up in a hurry and or boiling over? If your just going by the temp gage, I'd have to double check the temp gage.

Some possibilities, radiator--radiator cap--water pump--clogged coolant passage, somewhere-- thermostat? I'm sure I have left a few things out.

You may need to check for combustion gases in the coolant?

Sorry but your 2.8 is not a V8. Probably a cracked head. You can tell 2 ways. A radiator pressure tester that is a cap with a meter that you put where the radiator goes. Over 17 psi is a cracked something. Also, with a cracked head or gasket, your radiator fluid will be dark being mixed with exhaust gas an that pressure will not allow coolant to flow freely and you will run high temp. Also check your oil dipstick for evidence of antifreeze. I do not mean to dissappoint you, but these engines were problematic and I had one.

Oh and by the way, if you have the heads off ever, you can have them magnafluxed. It is a machine shop tool for car heads that check for cracks.
