99 blazer issue- speed gage will not move and not going into higher gear.
I installed a 1996 motor into a 99 blazer. All went well but the truck will not go out of 1st gear and the speed gage will not move. Motor will rev normally when pushing pedal but you can not feel anything trying to kick into a higher gear. Same results in Drive and lower gears for tow. Reverse works. Fluids are fine. Instrument panel works. A check engine light will come on after the truck gets hot. Codes PO-107 manifold pressure and PO-1345 Cam shaft sensor. But how is the speed gage and transmission related together? The transmission senses the motor reving and telling the transmission to go into higher gear but it's not happening. Why and where and what do I check? Mechanical or Electrical?

Check your VSS(vehicle speed sensor) it should be in the tailshaft of the transmission. But check the resistance in the cam sensor and maf as the ohms may be to high in them.

Fter checking wiring diagram on the 96 and 99 ther eis a difference on the vss circuit. The 999 has twisted wire and that adds resistance to the power and the 96 does not. Also there is a vin w and vin X on the 96 and not the 99. Your vss may be on the t-case as well. I don't know if you can correct this or not though.

OK.I crawled up underneath the truck and felt around on top of the transmission for a wire or something I could not see. I felt a wigly wire and something that it would plug into on the top of the transmission. I got the wire plugged into something that felt right.I got back into the truck backed the truck out of the garage drove the truck in forward and the speed gage needle worked and the RPM's revved up when pushing the gas and transmission shifted so I could go faster in higher gears. Boy am I glad it works now and drives good too. Thanks for this website I use it often and it has really helped on past issues too.

Check our fluid in the trans, make sure it is full if it is brownish color you should change it but it sounds like a clutch slipping problem. Or a seal going bad. Have a trans guy run a scan on the trans as something else may turn up.
