starts, immediately dies

it has a 2200 engine. you turn the key on and there are no idiot lights coming on and the gauges do not move, crank the starter and the engine starts for about 3 seconds and shuts right off, tried a different ignition switch and the same thing happens, all of the fuses in the car and under the hood are good.

possible bad key. sounds like a security issue.

no flashing security light, i was told it could be a bad cluster, i see it does have the white wires for the passkey system but he has never actually had the resistor key in the 2 years he has owned the car.

you can have the key tested at a parts store to see if it has a resistor in it. if you have the wires in the lock cylinder, then you have a chip
