Im currently in the process of removing the bad engine out of my montero sport. Im pretty much winging it because there isnt much info on these models released, but im financially forced to do the swap myself and could use all the help I can get info wise. Ive pretty much got it to where I can unbolt the transmission from the engine but with no manuals its pretty hard to reach the two bottom bolts. I read in another post I should unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel, is that true? Sounds like a rough process by yourself. But again if thats whats suggested I will do. I just need to get my truck back on the road. Please help. Thanks

Yes, you definitely have to unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel. My expectation here is you are probably going to cause a lot more damage than you started with in this experiment.

First off, I AM mechanically inclined enough to do this task, but this is the first automatic I have ever separated from an engine. And as I said there is hardly any info available for the montero sports and first automatic ive owned. Ive got the engine nearly ready to come out just two bottom trans bolts the mounts and a few hoses. Of course now I know to release the torque converter first. The new engine is coming from a yr newer vehicle so I shouldnt have too many setbacks I would hope. Again though any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
