New engine overheating

I've got a 98 mits eclipse rs manual trans 2.0 non turbo. When I got this car it was blowing white smoke using oil like crazy, no milky oil. I took it to a shop and I was told the head gasket was blown. So I just had a different shop put a referb in it. Now its overheating on me. It'll go up to 3/4 up on the temp gauge awhen driving and slowly go back down. Sometimes ill turn the heater on to cool it and it works. Sometimes it'll make it hotter when I turn the heater on. I don't run the a/c. I've put 3 thermostats in it. Still hot. Started using coolant like crazy. Took it to the shop after 1k miles on the engine, they said heater hose had a pin hole and they replaced them. STILL overheating. Drained the radiator, put a new one in it. No leaks that I can see. Thermostat seems to be working, I got bubbles. When they put the engine in it they replaced the water pump as well. The fans come on and off like I think they should as well. I don't know what to do now, any ideas?

Radiator flows sufficiently? Thermostat installed correctly? This is the most likely issue if the water pump is good and properly installed AND the radiator is flowing properly.

Either that or you have an engine with a head gasket blowing exhaust gases into the cooling system. There is a test kit for that you can purchase. But the shop that did the work should be paying for it, not you.

Thanks a lot, ill get up with them. I'm stumped about it I had to come out of pocket with the heater hoses the radiator and the 3 thermostats. The shop wouldn't handle it because it didn't have anything to do with what they did, they say. But this test with the exaust in the cooling system should do the trick and be on them? Could that possibly be why all the sudden I had a heater hose with a pin hole leak when it wasn't leaking before?

Yes, it should be on them. Especially if they did the refurb on the engine.

No, I doubt that the heater hose pinhole is connected. They probably didn't notice it when doing the engine.
