Ran out of gas, had a 5 gallon tank of gas that had been outside for awhile and put it in my jeep and the next morning it started spitting, sputtering and jerking with white smoke coming out of the exhaust. Died in my driveway and will not start at all. I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8

Either bad fuel or your fuel pump seized. Most likely the pump has gone. Once you run out of gas, the pump usually follows from lack of lubrication

Have the fuel pressure checked. I still bet on a failed fuel pump
