We don't have any information on your vehicle so I do not know the adjustment type.
If it has lock nuts holding the cable at the throttle bracket, loosen the locknut and back away from the throttle (allow more slack to the cable) by one thread and retest. Repeat if necessary.
Your condition now should be due to cable too taut resulting in excessive pressure.
