I want to compliment Ernie from cocoa (or was it cocoa beach) - he called me from there - I live not too far away - and he actually did research - and kew what the plug pins on my testing connector were for and what kind of testor was needed and when I then went over the info on my blue wire that was hanging in the front of the car - he saw what it was about and then contacted another mechanic and told me just where it was to go to and even walked me thru it when I went out to my car - and then when I found the wire - it was exactly the length that it needed to be to match the existing wire - and color - and to location - and it probably was the AAA guy messing with that area at night and even pushed the wire out of the way behind the knock sensor - the pnly explanation ebcause I never had the ses light on before in 3 yrs - and when the car first would not start right before that no ses light - but the very next morning another AAA guy came out and looked foe me - and saw this wire was hanging loose. So it had to be broken that night by the AAA guy.

I had been tot he dealer and also the auto parts store and had some idea about the sensors up there but fif not know about this wire neededing to be connected - and he was a big help - even the dealer mechanic did not know for the wire - and another web guy said it was an in needed wire as did other people. And my regular mechanic had notr used the correct testor for the plug either - so ernie is to be complimented for his knowledge and his going the extra mile to help me.

I am on disability and have not even enuf money to eat - but I will give a little more later.

Lou

I have listed below the steps necessary to remove and replace ignition switch. This isn't a job for someone with no experience so if it seems too complicated for you, I would suggest taking it to a shop so you don't harm yourself or vehicle.

REMOVAL:
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
If equipped, properly disable the SIR system, as outlined in of this repair guide.
Remove the left side lower trim panel.
Remove the steering column-to-support screws and lower the steering column.
Unplug the dimmer switch and turn signal switch connectors.
Remove the wiring harness-to-firewall nuts.
Remove the steering column-to-steering gear bolt and remove the steering column from the vehicle.
Remove the combination switch.
Place the lock cylinder in theRUNposition.
Remove the steering shaft assembly and turn signal switch housing as an assembly.
Using the terminal remover tool No. J 35689A or equivalent, label and unplug the wiresFandGon the connector at the buzzer switch assembly from the turn signal switch electrical harness connector.
With the lock cylinder in theRUNposition, remove the buzzer switch.
Place the lock cylinder in theACCESSORYposition, remove the lock cylinder retaining screw, and remove the lock cylinder.
Remove the dimmer switch nut/bolt, the dimmer switch, and the actuator rod.
Remove the dimmer switch mounting stud (the mounting nut was attached to it).
Remove the ignition switch-to-steering column screws and the ignition switch.
Remove the lockbolt screws and the lockbolt.
Remove the switch actuator rack and ignition switch.
Remove the steering shaft lock and spring.

INSTALLATION:
To install the lockbolt, lubricate it with lithium grease and install the lockbolt, spring and retaining plate.
Lubricate the teeth on the switch actuator rack, install the rack and the ignition switch through the opening in the steering bolt until it rests on the retaining plate.
Install the steering column lock cylinder set by holding the barrel of the lock cylinder, inserting the key and turning the key to theACCESSORYposition.
Install the lock set in the steering column while holding the rack against the lockplate.
Install the lock retaining screw. Insert the key in the lock cylinder and turn the lock cylinder to theSTARTposition and the rack will extend.
Center the slotted holes on the ignition switch mounting plate and install the ignition switch mounting screw and nut.
Install the dimmer switch and actuator rod into the center slot on the switch mounting plate.
Install the buzzer switch and turn the lock cylinder to theRUNposition. Push the switch in until it is bottomed out with the plastic tab that covers the lock retaining screw.
Install the steering shaft and turn signal housing as an assembly.
Install the turn signal switch. Install the steering wheel to the column, and tighten the steering shaft nut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
Install the steering column in the vehicle. Connect all electrical leads. Install the lower trim panels.
Connect the negative battery cable.
If equipped, properly enable the SIR system, as outlined in of this repair guide.
Check steering column operations.

Have you done a relearn on the pass-key?
GM PASS LOCK RELEARN- Ignition to "run" position, try to start and let key return to "run" position
Approx ten minutes security light will go off
Turn key "off" and wait 5 seconds
Repeat 2 more times for a total of 3 relearns.

Hello,

First off need to know if it is the Car or the Van. And you are trying to replace the Lock Cylinder and Key not the Ignition Switch. Sorry to ask but some people aren't quite sure what to call it and some places call it different things also.

Thanks

Hello,

My suggestion would to have the Lock Cylinder replaced it will come with a new set of keys for the Ignition. They will not work on the Doors. You can call a Lock Smith and see if they can make you a new key for the doors and ask if they can Rekey it. Meaning that if whoever stole your keys will not be able to use them to gain access to your vehicle.

I've had this problem a few times. Sometimes you can get lucky and just clean the lock. Spray some dust off computer cleaner in there, or lock deicer if you have any, followed by some WD-40. It may take a lot of in and outs of the key and turning to free up what is caught in there. Also try the spare key. Sometimes the lock is good but the key wears out, also though sometimes the lock and key wear out together so the spare key is worse. You should be able to buy the lock assembly online for cheap, but you have to take apart the column in order to put it in. If you do have to replace the lock, make sure your key doesn't have the anti-theft chip in the key. If it does, you may need to either buy a factory lock, or stash the old ket in the column next to the lock so it thinks you're using the original key.
