The first thing that needs to be done is to have it scanned, this is done with a scan tool that can read ABS or "C" codes, most shops can scan it, write down the codes and post them here.

First off, the 2 are NOT related. The ABS light is a whole seperate problem. The RPMs fluctuating could be as simple as a vacuum leak and this is quite likely. The PCM uses an IAC solenoid to maintain the correct idle speed. If there's a vacuum leak, air in entering the engine somewhere besides where it's supposed to. The PCM monitors the RPMs. When air enters the engine, the RPMs will increase so the PCM closes the IAC plunger. This causes the RPMs to drop again so the PCM opens the plunger again which increases the RPMs. You see the cycle? It just keeps going up and down. Use some flamable carburetor cleaner to spray around the engine while it's running. When you spray the cleaner on the vacuum leak, you will notice the change. Then all you have to do is figure out exactly where it is. You should hear a hissing sound, too if there's a leak. Get back with me and let me know what you find.

The anti-lock and the brake indicator is on in our Astro Van. What causes it to come on and how do I clear it?

I need to know if you have 4 wheel anti lock or just rear wheel anti lock. Look and see on the back side of your front wheel's if you have wire's going to both front wheel's to speed sensor's if you do then you have four wheel anti lock. If you don't then you just have rear wheel anti lock. You have a problem with your abs that's why you have the light's on.I also emailed you how to get your abs code numbers you have let me know what the number's are.I emailed them to your personal email.

There are 4 electrical wires, one going to each tire.
The codes are 6 3 6 3 6 3 1 2 1 2 1 2.
Then they repeat again. What do the codes mean? The charts I've looked at don't help me much because they don't match the codes I came up with.

The brakes are stopping the car fine, but they won't pass my inspection because the brake light is on and I think it is because of the problem in the Anti-lock Brake System.

Thank you so much for your help. I have to get on to other things as there is a hurricane headed our way.

I have a 94 astro and we seem to be having a issue with the brakes. When you go to stop, it wont even try to stop and then the abs kicks in. Its my grandmas van and shes scared to drive it in fear of hitting somebody. Ive rode with her and as she presses the pedal the van wont even feel like it tryed to stop, and the abs kicks in. If I remember right with the abs working the rear tires still lock up. Also its a very random problem.
