1998 3.8 160041 mi. My a/c first went out thought was out of freon but was not. Then a few weeks later my heat didnt work, a couple days from noticing that, my car was running hot. Usually dont run over 150 on the temp gage on the dash board. Then the voltage light came on and car started chugging. Then check engine light came on then a smell like bad gas came from the car then it stalled out. Because of the smell I was afraid to try to start it. Had my husband come get me. It wouldnt turn at first so he had to "pump" the gas to get fuel in the car I guess to get it going. Everytime he pushed the gas petal it would stall. Then causing him to keep foot on gas pedal to prevent stalling then there was white smoke everywhere. We were told we blew a gasket or my heads. My dad checked the oil there was no antifreeze in it. I still had coolant. Now it wont turn over, tried giving it a jump and it wont start. My dad says the timing went out. So I go buy a timing chain and gaskets and my hubby and dad tore it all apart to find the timing is in tune. But the timing wont sin so now my dad says it spun a bearing? Was the heat not working my only sign for this much damage? Now my dad says for me to just go buy another motor. I just put money into the car. We drove it from Mi to ga with NO problems, that was 2 weeks before my car broke down. PLEASE GIVE SOME BETTER CHEAPER IDEAS!

Before they replace the engine, remove the spark plugs and see if the engine turns. My guess is there is coolant in one of them causing hydrostatic lock. Most likely a bad head gasket or intake gasket. NOTE: Coolant doesn't always go into the oil when there is a bad head gasket. As far as the heat, if it was low on coolant, that could be the issue.
