My 1997 vw jetta is leaking water inside under my dash on the passenger side near the firewall, ive had the heater core pressure checked and was told that was fine so what else could the problem be. Also when the car has been running for a while a steam comes from the ac vents when the ac is off or on

The condensate drain for the air conditioner is plugged. Look for a 4" long rubber hose hanging down from the passenger side of the firewall under the hood. Squeeze that tube to open up the end so debris can come out. If nothing comes out, pull that hose off and carefully poke a pencil in there to dislodge the blockage.

Apart from above, check to see if the A/C compressor is running all the time with or without A/C being turned on.

Take a look at the first 3 images below... look for the flap
in your engine bay... at the back of the engine against the
firewall.

Images I believe are from an A4 VW, but yours should be similar.
