Hello,
This morning I was driving my car and I noticed two weird things were happening. The first is that I could not use my car heater because steam was coming through the vents, and second is that when I was accelarating, some kind of liquid spilled onto my foot that was on the gas peddle. Do you think these two things are caused by the same problem or differet? Should I get this checked out ASAP? (I am a student and dont have very much money.)
Thanks for your help!

I had the same thing happen with an 86 Mercury with steam coming out of the vents. I was told that it was the heater core. In that car it was located behind the dashboard so I never fixed it because of the labor price to remove the dashboard.

As for the liquid dripping on your feet, I'm sure it's connected to the same problem. You might want to purchase a repair manual and find the location of the heater core. If it's also behind the dashboard that will give you a clue as to how much labor cost you're looking at. I have ran across heater core parts online for under $100. If you are machanically savy at all you could problably just do the work yourself with the manual. Good Luck! My jetta hasn't had that problem yet. My AC and electrical are my current problems. =/

Definitely sounds like your heater core. These cars require the complete dash asssembly be removed to replace it. It's probably a 6-8 hour job.
Most shops are willing to bypass the core completely by re-routing the hoses in the engine compartment if you're looking for a cheap fix.
