I have the 2rz-fe 2.4L engine that I am replacing in my 97 Tacoma. I recently received a used low mileage engine to swop out. The engine I'm pulling out has a distributor. The new used engine has dual coil type. There is a bracket holding the coils with the same bolt pattern as the distributor. I removed the bracket and low and behold there is a rubber plug where my distributor gear will go. Should this just be a unplug the rubber seal and drop my distributor in and I'm done? Will I need to swop/change the cam or crank sensors? Anything different I should know about when they switched to dual coils?

You have received the wrong engine for your truck. It is a newer version. Remove the rubber plug and be sure there is a gear at the bottom to engage the distributor assembly.

You will need to strip down the donor motor and change over all external, including sensors to the new engine from your old engine. There may not be a gear at the bottom. If there is not, the motor will not work
