I have a 1997 Nissan micra that makes a whistling/screaching noise then the clutch pedal is up. It has 70,000 miles on the clock and is 13 years old. I have been told it is the release/Thrust bearing that is worn, will get worse and needs to be changed. I have also heard that it doesn't actually cause a problem and its just a noise. I dont know whether it really needs to be donw or not. Thank you.

It sounds like the throw out bearing is bad. Yes it will get worse.

If it is the thrust bearing the noise will eventuraly get worse but it shouldnt cause any damage so would be worth to wait till the clutch needs changing as a garage will charge around  100 if your lucky to do it
