I've got a 97 Mazda mx6 that won't start. It is a 2.5L engine. I found my Haynes Repair Manual and was able to diagnose it a little bit but now it has me stumped. When I turn the key the fuel I don't hear any noise coming from the fuel pump, so I followed the steps in the manual and jumped the fuel pump test terminals and it seemed to turn on the pump. I want to be able to check the fuel pressure, but I have no idea where and how to hook up the fuel pressure gauge to. On just about every car that I worked on and fixed I was able to connect the gauge directly up to the fuel rail via the valve. The car has a good crank to it, but could probably use a tune up because the spark isn't the greatest. The last thing I want to do is to start throwing money at it hoping for it to start. Any help or advice to get this going again would greatly be appreciated.
P.S.
If you can add a picture of exactly how to attach the fuel pressure gauge to check the fuel pressure I would appreciate it.
Thank you,
Josh

There is no schrader valve to test the pressure from, so you need to connect in the fuel line supply. As a result, there are no pics. What I do when I get one of these vehicles is check the pressure at the fuel filter. This requires some engineering or the purchase of an adapter.

Once you get it connected, the pressure for this vehicle should be 30 to 37psi with vacuum to the regulator.
