A/C system has a leak somewhere. 1st mechanic charged it up and within a week it was no longer cold. Now another mechanic wants to charge it up again..pay for that to detect where the leak is. I realize it could be leaking from several different places...cost for detecting leak "should" be around?????? What are some examples of the leak problem could be???? Prices...dare I ask?

It has 3 major components and the leak is usually in one of the 3 but actually could be anywhere. Most shops will diagnose and leak check the system for under $50 and many will credit that toward the repairs. One method is to install some U/V dye into the system and then drive it. the leak will show up under U/V light.

Compressor, Evaporator and Condenser. The accumulator and orifice tube are also changed whenever the system is opened.
