Ok I have a 1997 ford ranger when I bought it the fuel gauge didn't work so I replaced the fuel pump and it started to work but it is inaccurate it will say I have a quarter of a tank then a few minutes later it's below E I don't want to run out of gas so I want to fix this problem but not sure what's wrong

Check and see ifyo have low voltage or a blinking light at fuel sender. Then ground it out and have an assistant see if the gauge goes to full. If it does then the you need a new sender. If you don't have a low voltage/blinking light at tank connector then check for a shorted wire or it has a bad gauge which may mean getting the instrument panel rebuilt.

Also make sure if your float is the hollow brass variety that it's not saturated with fuel.
