My 1997 S-10 4 cyl. Blew the catalytic converter. Actually it blocked up. After changing (and it's sensor) it my truck has no power at all and makes a air sucking noise. Changed plugs, wires, fuel filter and had fuel pump checked. Some one told me The valve could have been damaged and I need a valve job. Don't see any smoke from tail pipe. Anything else I am missing? Could the throttle position reg. Or a sensor cause this?

The cat probably broke up inside(old one) and sent chunks into the exhaust pipes and muffler, you may need to replace these too!

That would account for not being able to get up any speed in first, second and third? Also has a rough idle, but when I can get it up to say fifty, it runs smooth.

Use either a vacuum gage to ported manifold vac, then raise rpm to 2000, if needle drops, the exhaust is plugged, or rent an exhaust system backpressure tester, remove an O2 sensor and screw in the tester, should not be higher that 2 psi! These pieces will lodge in the exhaust, and may move causeing momentary power spikes, and then re clog the system, choking power!
